Welcome, Mrs. Lori Cunyus

Posted by: | Comments (0)

We are glad to welcome Mrs. Lori Cunyus to the Regents Academy faculty.

Mrs. Cunyus will be teaching our 2nd grade class as her predecessor, Mrs. Melissa Griner, moves to our secondary school to teach math and science. Lori and her husband Michael have been part of the Regents family for two years as their daughter Sydney has completed kindergarten and 1st grade. Their youngest daughter Rachel will be in the KPrep class this year.

Mrs. Cunyus is new to the 2nd grade classroom, but she is no stranger to education. As a county extension agent in several Texas counties and as an online teacher at SFA, Mrs. Cunyus has educated children of all ages and college students for a number of years. Her bachelor’s and master’s degrees are from Texas A&M.

We welcome her to this exciting new position and expect the Lord to work through her daily as she teaches 2nd grade.

Welcoming Mrs. LaWanna Smith

Posted by: | Comments (1)

After four years of faithful service to Regents Academy Mrs. Sharon Freeland has stepped down from teaching kindergarten. Mrs. Freeland is a gifted and committed kindergarten teacher who will be missed!

However, God has provided a new teacher to step into kindergarten — Mrs. LaWanna Smith. Mrs. Smith comes to us after more than 20 years teaching kindergarten, first grade, and second grade in the Dallas area. A native of Nacogdoches, LaWanna and her husband David have three children and two grandchildren.

We are so glad Mrs. Smith is on board!

Welcome, Ruth Hoffmann

Posted by: | Comments (0)

I am very pleased to announce that Regents Academy has added Miss Ruth Hoffmann to its faculty. Miss Hoffmann is our new 5th grade teacher for the 2010-2011 school year.

Originally from Washington, Miss Hoffmann spent the last four years in Moscow, Idaho, as a student at New Saint Andrews College. A graduate of NSA, she has a bachelor of arts in Liberal Arts and Culture. She aspires to give her students a love of the written word and train them to see themselves as characters in God’s story of the world.

Miss Hoffmann has three siblings, loves horses and horsemanship, and is excited about East Texas humidity and mosquitoes (the first two have been positively verified). She will arrive in Nacogdoches a bit later in August.

Welcome, Ruth!

Welcome, Dayna Stanaland

Posted by: | Comments (1)

It is our pleasure to welcome a new first grade teacher to Regents Academy.

We are very thankful for Mrs. Deborah Kirby’s years of faithful service to the school, and now we are very thankful for Mrs. Dayna Stanaland’s joining the faculty.

Dayna is no stranger to Regents Academy. Her daughters Hayli and Madison will enter kindergarten and 2nd grade next year, and Lilly will enter the KPrep class. Dayna is known around the school not only as a gracious and kind Christian lady but also as an involved mom and a willing substitute teacher. Dayna and her husband Michael call Nacogdoches home and have done so for many years. A graduate of SFA, Dayna previously taught at Central Heights and is glad to be serving as a teacher at Regents Academy.

The first grade students will undoubtedly have a joyful and enriching adventure next year in Mrs. Stanaland’s class as they grow in the knowledge of God and His world.

Welcome, Dayna!

Most folks in our school community know that Mrs. Nicole Alders is stepping out of the 5th grade classroom. She is a stellar teacher and a faithful Christian lady who brings so much to our staff and to our school family. Thankfully, she will still be active on campus as she continues to teach writing to our 7th graders and as she helps promote Regents Academy in the community.

Mrs. Alders’ departure from the 5th grade, however, means that we are in need of a new 5th grade teacher. We are continuing to accept applications. If you know of someone who loves the Lord, loves families, and has the God-given ability to teach who is interested in using his or her talents in service to the families of Regents Academy, please direct them to contact me at the school office at 559-7343. I would love to talk about the possibility of their teaching at Regents.

We know that God has the right person ready to fill this position. Please join us in asking the Lord to send him or her to us. And help us out if you can.

Hello, Roy Bradley

Posted by: | Comments (1)

God has been very gracious to Regents Academy. We see His grace and providence at every turn — buildings, books, playgrounds, SAT scores, science labs, and all the rest. But there is no clearer evidence of His goodness than the people He has gathered into our community. St. Paul wrote to the brethren in Philippi, “I thank my God upon every remembrance of you.” The parents, children, board members, teachers, and friends of Regents Academy are precious gifts from the Lord’s hand. Every time we see their faces, we ought to be moved with profound thankfulness.

The newest face in the Regents Academy faculty is Mr. Roy Bradley. The Lord’s guiding hand has been evident as He led Mr. Bradley and his family to our school, and we are indeed thankful.

Mr. Bradley will teach omnibus, logic, and government in our Logic and Rhetoric schools. He is a graduate of Sam Houston State University with a B.A. in philosophy and music, and he has completed graduate work at Truett Seminary in Waco and B.H. Carroll Theological Institute in Arlington. Roy and his wife Christy have two children: Aaron (2) and Claire (5 months).

They moved to the area from Houston, and if you are at the school these days, there is a good chance you will see him around. If you do, introduce yourself and take a moment to begin getting to know him. He is a bright, energetic, personable man who is going to do a great job in the classroom.

Dear Regents Family,

It is my privilege to serve Regents Academy as chairman of the board. I know I speak for the whole board when I express my sincere appreciation for MaryAnn Bentley’s service as administrator of our school.  Her presence on our school campus is proof that God has been faithful to our school in its early years.  She has been a blessing to the board as a great source of leadership, knowledge, and experience as well as being a blessing to our families as an educator, organizer, and friend.  Over the past four years, MaryAnn has helped to transition Regents Academy from a somewhat informal collection of families to a thriving, growing school.

Having worked directly with MaryAnn on multiple projects and in a wide variety of school situations, I can say that she is truly a pleasure to work with.  MaryAnn always has a smile when times are tough. She often shares a story from her years in education and wisdom that can only come from a great mother.   For this rookie school board chairman, I deeply appreciate her calm approach and I’m sure this school year, and my life, has been better for it!

Her experience has proven to be invaluable to the board and her new role as fellow board member will allow for her continued involvement and input.  Additionally, MaryAnn’s new role as Placement Director will help our students find God’s direction for their lives and have even greater success in the pursuit of their goals.  MaryAnn has sacrificed greatly for Regents Academy and her love of learning and the students has led to many great accomplishments.
During her tenure as Regents Academy school administrator, she has endured the building of a new educational wing, formalized many school processes, grown the enrollment significantly, watched many seniors go to the colleges of their dreams, led times of devotionals and singing, disciplined students when needed, and prayed with students and families in times of trials and blessings.  MaryAnn has worn too many hats to count!  We are thankful also that Farrar will continue to serve the school as our Spanish teacher. Yes, we have been blessed to have the Bentleys at Regents Academy, and I look forward to many more years of serving the school together.

Mrs. Bentley’s mantle of leadership will be passed on to Mr. David Bryant, our current Academic Dean, who will become the administrator in June. The board is grateful that Mr. Bryant and his family are a part of our school.

On behalf of the Regents Academy school board, and from the very bottom of my heart, thank you MaryAnn for your impact on the lives of our students, our families, our school and our community.

Sincerely,

Mark E. Sowell, DPM
Regents Academy Board Chairman
