Faith for Boys
Posted by: | CommentsBoys take faith. Anyone that has had boys or has taught boys knows that they take A LOT of faith! I must admit that having my own family made up of the male species, me being the exception, and teaching sixth grade boys I have an abundance of exposure to boys! I must also admit that at times I forget that boys take faith! I do get discouraged and the boys in my life bring disappointment in ways that are hard for a female to understand. I regularly have to give myself a pep-talk about being faithful and not losing faith, that God does love these young men in my midst and that I have a duty to our Lord to faithfully love and correct them.
This morning the Lord gave me a big hug from Heaven. Our morning assembly began as usual and the children that are late are required to wait in the hall until the Scripture reading is completed so that they won’t disrupt the the reading of God’s Word. We always have some students waiting in the hall. These children filed in after the reading and the assembly continued on. We were almost finished with the assembly when I looked into the hallway and there I saw one of our “big boys” in secondary school, obviously later than the rest. Mr. Bryant was ready for us to sing the Gloria Patri and we all raised our hands to praise the Lord one last time before we were released to start our day in our classrooms. Tears quickly came to my eyes as I watched this young man, who will soon be on his own in the world, raise his hands and his mouth followed the words that we all sang. My point being that it would have been so easy for him to just stand in the hall since few could even see him. He could have stayed at his locker two minutes longer for the assembly would conclude very shortly. This young man could have walked to his first period class (and two years ago, I would have fully expected him to do so) but he chose to stand in the hallway, raise his large manly hands to Heaven and sing praises to our Lord. He has no idea what a faith boost he gave me today! (I almost ran to hug him when the song was over! :>)
With more faith than usual, and a gratefulness for God’s goodness, I pray along with Ignatius of Loyola:
Dearest Lord, teach me to be generous.
Teach me to serve you as you deserve;
to give, and not to count the cost;
to fight, and not to heed the wounds;
to labor, and not to seek to rest;
to give of myself and not to ask for reward,
except the reward of knowing that I am doing your will. Amen.

Val and Sal Speeches 2010

The valedictorian of the Regents graduating class of 2010 is Parker Andrews. The salutatorian is David Henry. Both young men graduated magna cum laude, with many honors and accomplishments, and both are preparing to continue their education, having achieved a number of significant academic scholarships.
We are very proud of these two students, who achieved top honors in their class. Below are their speeches from this year’s graduation ceremony.
Lance Vermillion: “Be Men . . . And Women”
Posted by: | CommentsThe Regents Academy commencement exercises on May 28, 2010, looked backward to thank God for His abundant blessings in the lives of our five graduates and their families. The ceremony also looked forward to what God has in store for Parker, Brad, Olya, David, and Hannah. Through their education at Regents Academy, these students have been uniquely prepared to be lifelong learners and to pursue whatever vocational avenue God opens up.
Below is the video of speaker Lance Vermillion’s graduation speech. Mr. Vermillion is the former assistant administrator at Regents and currently the elementary principal and assistant headmaster at Veritas Academy in Texarkana. His speech is a profound and witty tribute to classical Christian education and a meaningful challenge to the graduates. The video is in two parts.

A Hail and Farewell from Mrs. Bentley

A Hail and Farewell is a social gathering all armed services use to welcome newcomers to a new assignment and extends goodbyes to those leaving for another post. I believe this is such a warm and kind tradition to show our affection for those who share our lives. This tradition was passed down to me over fifty years ago when I met my wonderful husband, Farrar. The civilian world has retirement parties, but is remiss when it comes to changing one’s address or job position. I have now come to that fork in the road when it is time for me to say farewell to over twenty years of administrative duties in the field of education and say hello to a bit more free time, but not entirely leaving my chosen profession.
The month of June will bring a transition to Regents Academy. I will remove my administrator’s hat and become the Placement Director for Regents Academy. My new position will make ready our secondary students for life beyond these halls of ivy. The Placement Directors position is new and I look forward to embracing it with all of the energy, enthusiasm and excitement that I did my first teaching job in 1976. My plan is to create a profile for our school, to clarify and align our Classical curriculum, as well as make our students ready for their chosen professions. Along with guiding our students, I will administer and oversee all testing, such as: PSAT, Duke TIP, achievement tests, etc., and lighten the load of the administrator. I will also be available for college counseling with students and families on an as needed basis.
The Lord speaks and Mr. Bentley and I shall heed His instructions to scale back and make more time for our family. We have ten wonderful grandchildren and five fantastic children. We have two sons in the active Army and have watched them travel in and out of Theater for over ten years. Next school year will bring us back on a reduced schedule and Mr. Bentley will teach Spanish as I begin in my new position. We heartily believe in the goals and missions of Regents Academy and I am thankful for the past four years as your administrator. The Regents Academy board has asked me to join them in membership and I consider it an honor to become a part of this auspicious body of leaders.
Mr. David Bryant, Academic Dean, will become the Regents Academy Administrator beginning in mid June, 2010. I pass the mantle to Mr. Bryant knowing that the Regents Academy family will be in very capable hands. A very hearty welcome to Mr. Bryant, his wife, Ashley and their children Aaron, Alice, Lindley and Sydney.
